Adjusting pulp pH: Calcium oxide dissolves in water to form calcium hydroxide, which can increase the alkalinity of the pulp. In the flotation of many gold ores, an alkaline environment can enhance the activity of collectors. This helps gold minerals combine better with collectors and attach to bubbles for separation. For example, when dealing with gold ores containing sulfides, an appropriate alkaline environment can inhibit sulfides and facilitate the flotation of gold minerals.
Inhibiting associated minerals: It can inhibit associated gangue minerals and sulfides such as pyrite. By suppressing these interfering minerals, the impact on the flotation of gold minerals is reduced, thereby improving the grade of gold concentrate.
Protecting cyanide: Cyanidation is a commonly used process for gold extraction. Cyanide is prone to hydrolysis and inactivation. Calcium oxide can adjust the pH of the pulp to an alkaline level, which inhibits the hydrolysis of cyanide. Stabilizing tailings: Calcium oxide reacts with certain components in the tailings, which can increase the stability of the tailings and reduce the risk of migration and diffusion of harmful components in the tailings.
Neutralizing acidity: If the tailings are acidic, calcium oxide can neutralize acidic substances to prevent acidic wastewater from polluting the environment.
