Quicklime, chemically known as calcium oxide, is an inorganic compound widely used in industry, agriculture, environmental protection and other fields. Calcium oxide reacts with fatty acids through a saponification reaction to produce calcium fatty acid soaps, which are important thickening agents in lubricating grease.The calcium fatty acid soaps form a three - dimensional network structure in the base oil, entrapping the base oil and giving the lubricating grease its appropriate consistency and stability. Factors such as the purity and particle size of calcium oxide, as well as the reaction temperature, time, and stirring speed, affect the saponification reaction. Higher purity and smaller particle size of calcium oxide, along with appropriate increases in temperature, reaction time, and stirring speed, are beneficial for improving the efficiency and product quality of the saponification reaction.
