The main component of quicklime lump is calcium oxide, which belongs to alkaline oxides, the appearance is white lump. The density is 3.35 g/cm ³ and the texture is hard. Quicklime has strong hygroscopicity and is prone to absorb moisture and carbon dioxide when exposed to air, ultimately producing calcium carbonate (CaCO3). Quicklime reacts violently with water, break into powder and release a large amount of heat.

1.Slagging to remove impurities
During the steelmaking process, impurities in the molten iron (such as SiO₂ (acidic oxide), P₂O₅, S, etc.) need to be removed through slag-forming reactions. Through the slag-making reaction, harmful impurities are separated from the molten iron to improve the purity and performance of the steel.
2.Adjust the alkalinity of the slag
As an alkaline oxide, it directly increases the CaO content in the slag, adjusts the alkalinity to the target range, and the appropriate alkalinity can enhance the slag's ability to capture impurities while reducing the erosion of the furnace lining. Quicklime reacts with the acidic substances in the slag, reducing the corrosiveness of the slag, minimizing the erosion of the alkaline lining, and prolonging the service life of the furnace.
