A white powdery solid, slightly soluble in water (solubility ~0.165 g/100 mL at 20°C). Its aqueous solution is called lime water, and the suspension is called lime milk or lime slurry.

Melting Point: 580°C (decomposes into CaO and H₂O)
Chemical Properties:
A strong base with general properties of alkalis, reacting with acids, acidic oxides (e.g., CO₂, SO₂), and salts (e.g., Na₂CO₃).
Reacts with CO₂ in the air to form calcium carbonate (CaCO₃):Ca(OH)2+CO2→CaCO3↓+H2O
